They are essentially non vegetarian, their main staple being pork, poultry and rice. They are a close knit community without any bias in matters of religion, race or social status. Music, song and dance are an intrinsic part of the Mizo culture reflected in their inventive dance forms like the Cheraw – Bamboo dance or the Khuallam a dance accompanied to the sound of rhythmic drum beats.

They are hospitable, sociable and love music, singing and dancing. The unique cultural attraction of the state is its "Cheraw" or Bamboo Dance .
