Arunachal Pradesh Monastery Tribal Tour

  • Day 1: Delhi / Kolkata - Dibrugarh - Nameri 260km 6hrs drive

    • Met upon arrival. Drive to Namari Wildlife Park. Evening walk in the forest to see various birdlife. Nameri Tiger Reserve is nestled at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas; it covers an area of 200 square kilometers. Situated in the eastern border of Assam valley and mountainous Arunachal Pradesh, it’s a very scenic sanctuary with river Jia Bhoroli bifurcating through. Nameri is home to some of the endangered species like white-winged wood duck and many other winged species.
  • Day 2: Tezpur to Dirang 1600M Drive – 221 Kms/ 7hrs

    • Drive to Dirang 221 km in 7 hrs. The journey is along a very scenic road traversing forested hills and crossing over the Nichephu pass to the Tanga valley. Traversing the Tanga valley. The road climbs through a series of hairpins to the town of Bomdila, located at 2800m height pass of same name. Here after the road descend to the picture postcard Dirang valley at 1600m which is our destination for the day. Overnight at hotel in Dirang. [HOTEL PEMALING 3*]
  • Day 3: Dirang to Tawang Drive - 140 Kms/ 6hrs

    • Drive to Tawang 140km. Our enchanting journey to Tawang continues over 4150 meters high. Sela pass was once the battle ground between the Indian and Chinese armies. Enroute visit Alpine lake, Sela pass temple and marvel. At scenery there are photo opportunities at every turn and visit the mind hogging road. Over/ night/ hotel [GAKHYEKHANG ZONG 3*]
  • Day 4: Tawang Local Excursion

    • Explore the 400 years old Tawang monastery and have an audience with Rimpoche in afternoon. Visit Urgelling Monastery dating back to 1489 followed by the Seru monpa village craft center and museum. Over/ night at hotel.
      The famous Gelden Namgyal Lhatsa, popularly known as Tawang monastery was founded by Mera Lama Lodre Gyamsto in year of 1860-81. This Monastery is largest in the country and is the second largest in Asia. This Monastery is fountain head of the Spiritual life of Gelukpa Sect of Mahayana school of Buddhism. The inner walls of Dukhang assembly hall are printed with murals of various divinities and saints. The silver casket is wrapped in silk containing the Thankas of Goddess of Sri Devi [palden lhamo]. The principal deity of monastery is kept here. It was given to Merak lama by Vth Dalai lama. The Thankas are printed with blood drown from the nose of the Dalai Lama. A colossal richly – gilled statue of Lord Buddha occupies the Middle of the northern side. It is the largest image of the monastery and is about 20 feet high.
      The Urgelling monastery is the birth place of sixth Dalai Lama. Dalai Lama was deposed in by the 1706. In 1714 the destruction of all Gelukpa Gompa was carried out by Sokpa Jomkhar, a Mongolian warrior who involved from Bhutan. During the campaign, the Dalai Lama Original monastery at Urgalling was destroyed. All valued possession of Urgelling monastery like scriptures; statues and other were taken to Tawang monastery. It was during the ka-gyur [scripture] written out in gold and silver. Arrival at Tawang monastery, where they preserved to these days. Today modest Gompa stands at this.
  • Day 5: Tawang - Sela – Dirang Drive 143Kms/6hrs

    • Drive to Dirang over the Sela pass. On the way stop at Jung to explore another Monpa tribal village and visit Indo – China War memorial Over/ night/ hotel [PEMALING HOTEL 3*]
  • Day 6: Namsu River Excursion 65km 2hrs drive

    • Excursion to Namsu River to Namsu 60 kms to Ancient Monpa village. Spend the day exploring the exquisite Buddhist Gompa, kalkaling gate. Chusker [its traditional water mill] and village houses.   • Day 7: Bomdila to Itanagar 280km 8hrs drive

    • Morning visit Upper gompa /lower rompa driver to itanager enroute visit tea garden o/ night/ hotel. [HOTEL DONYPOLO ASHOK]
  • Day 8: Itanagar – Ziro 180km 5hrs Drive

    • Early morning visit mountain lake Syaker sinyi, Monpa Buddhist Monastery at Itanagar and state Museum local market. Driving along the Ranga River, we quickly enter the extensive foothills of the Himalaya. The mountain road cuts through densely forested hills and slowly keeps gaining altitude till we reach the Apatani plateau at 5700 feet. Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 9: Ziro Local

    • Using Ziro as a base, the entire day is spent visiting the Hong and other Apatani Villages. Everywhere we go we are warmly welcomed. As E.T. Dalton noted in 1845, “The men do not rejoice in much drapery, they wear a girdle of cane work painted red which hangs behind in long bushy tail.”Just as the tail is the distinctive part of the male dress, so is the nose plug peculiar to the Apatani women. It is the ambition of each woman to wear the largest possible nose plugs, which are made of wood. Both sexes extensively tattoo their faces. Each sect has distinctive features.   • Day 10: Ziro – Doporijo 193km 6hrs Drive

    • Departing early in the morning, we descend from the Ziro plateau and drive along the Kamla River valley through dense jungle country, passing picturesque villages of Nishis and the Hill Miris tribes. We will visit Muri Mugli, a Hill Miris tribe, and if road conditions are good we will continue another eight miles on a mountain dirt road to Noori, a small traditional village of the same people. The Ghansi sect of the Miris that we encounter here are of short stature, scantily dressed with a sleeveless jacket and loincloths. They will usually carry woven cane knapsacks and a dao (broad sword) along with bow and arrows. The Panibotias, another sect of the Miris that we will meet, are just the opposite: tall, well-built people. Continue driving to Daporijo on the banks of the Subansiri River. Daporijo is the junction of three important tribes; Hill Miris, Tagins and Adi-Gallongs. [OVER/NIGHT/ LEGO TOURIST LODGE VERY BASIC ROOM]
  • Day 11: Daporijo to Nacho 300km 9hrs drive

  • Day 13: Nacho to Daporijo

  • Day 14: Doporijo – Along 163km 5hrs Drive

    • Early morning visit Lida village of Adi-Gallong tribes. A short twelve-mile drive brings us to Tajipara, another Adi-Gallong tribal village. Adis are very accomplished weavers of cane goods. They make baskets, hats, breastplates, shield, but the excellence of their cane work shines supreme in the famous cane suspension bridges of Arunachal Pradesh. “Marvels of untutored engineering skills,” was how a 19th-century British explorer described the bridges. The Adis also excel at weaving intricate patterns for their clothing, and we may see examples of their pottery today. [OVER/ NIGHT/ HOTEL KANZING rooms basic].
  • Day 15: Aloo to Machuka 330km 10hrs drive

    • Enroute Visit Pailabu Tribal village. Over/ night/ Government Guest house/ option Local house.

    • Visit Mamba Tribe this tribe they are Migrated from Tibet, Michuka is last village of Tibet Border.
  • Day 17: Machuka to Aloo 330km 10hrs drive

  • Day 18: Aloo

    • Visit ADI Galong Tribal Village and Monyong Tribal village.
  • Day 19: Along to Pasighat 112km 4 to 5 hrs drive

    • We drive back towards ALONG before heading east. Reach the Brahamaputra River vally. We continue to drive on a military road downriver to Pasighat. Pasighat is fairly big town on the bank of Bhramaputra. Here the mighty river exits the mountains to empty onto the Assam plain. From being a few hundred feet wide it suddenly grows to six miles across. In the evening visit to the local market. Over/night Hotel Anee Good hotel.
  • Day 20: Pasighat to Roing 200km 8hrs

    • Eroute visit Padam and Pasi tribel village over / night hotel or tourist lodge. The rooms are basic.
  • Day 21: Roing
